Catching Up

Long time, no post. But I've been so active lately that it's been hard to give my web assistants proper guidance to do their jobs. But let's get caught up...

Not long after my last post, I was off to Hawai'i for my Thanksgiving vacation. It got off to a rough start when I didn't win the Halfway to Hawai'i game on our United flight. My guess was within a minute of the actual halfway point, but it wasn't close enough! We started off in Honolulu.

We got a great Thanksgiving lunch at Wolfgang's Steak House. I highly recommend the dry-aged filet with onion rings. Although, I am also partial to the area in front of the restaurant where you can run and talk as loudly as you like. For some reason I was not supposed to scream inside...

We drove the full loop of the island. Well sort of, we found out that to do the FULL loop requires off-roading, so we did as close to a full loop as possible while staying on paved roads. This was all of our first time doing the loop since the last time my parents came together was during their highly impoverished phase when they had to take the bus.

After a few days in Honolulu, we shifted camp to the North Shore. It was a lot quieter, but a little too quiet for a busybody like me. It rained some while I was there, but I did get to see a rainbow. I guess the Hawaiian saying is true: no rain, no rainbows.

We made one last stop: Maui.

My favorite place was the aquarium! All the fish were so amazing and beautiful. And I got to practice saying new words like "ocean". Unfortunately, my pronunciation was a little bit off and instead of "ocean" it came out like "o-sh*t". Unintentional potty mouth, but I insisted on screaming this for much of the first 30 minutes that we were there.

At the hotel, my dad let me ride the dragon. That was pretty fun, and I thought it could fly!

We also went to the Iao valley where my mom carried me on her back up 132 stairs to the summit (and back down). It was very pretty and I enjoyed the chauffeuring.

Yes - this is still Maui. You would not think that I would need a coat, but we did climb (the car doing much of the work) to the top of Haleakala which is over 10,000 feet in elevation. What a view! It was definitely worth the long car ride and cold weather.

You may have noticed from some of the pictures that the humidity in Hawai'i played havoc with my hair.

It took the strong winds on top of Haleakala to straighten it out.

I thought things could not get much better than our family time in Hawai'i, but then Christmas came along and I must have been a really good boy last year! I literally got a wagon full of toys and a tree appeared on Christmas day! Lets say in the next post I will show you how busy I have been playing with and enjoying these toys. As a teaser - here I am playing with my new wooden train that Santa brought me.

Till next time,

Gabe
